I'm a big fan of JoomlaPraise templates because they are simple and elegant. I've used them for almost each of the websites I've created in the past year. But how do they do with usability? This is a review for their latest template "Praiseit" which is a Joomla! Blog/Portfolio Template. It has a cute and playful design and the usability is mostly right. They fail in only 2 criterias: There is no utilities menu, and there is no module position to place a search module on the top.

| Usability criteria (Read About It) | Comments | |
| Utilities Menu | ![]() |
There is no utilities menu |
| Call to Action on the Right | ![]() |
The right position can be used for call to action |
| Search on Top Right | ![]() |
There is no module position on the top for a search module |
| Site Intro Box | ![]() |
The banner position can be used for site intro |
| Footer Menu | ![]() |
User2 can be used for footer menu |
| Big Logo image | ![]() |
Size of the logo image is 400x50, would be even better if it was 100 high |
| Links Look Like Links | ![]() |
Links inside content are in different color than the text |
| Get the Text Size Right | ![]() |
The size is ok, but it would be better if it was a bit larger |
| Make the Navigation Clear | ![]() |
Navigation is very clear |
| Use Both Sides of the Screen | ![]() |
Both right and left columns exist |

Thanks for the great review and kind words. I really like the Usability Points system, it will guide us in improving future templates and updated current ones. We're going to strive for 10 out of 10!

Merav, good points system. I'm a fan of the JoomlaPraise design team. From a usability standpoint, they do a very good job. I'm picky as heck and subjective about design and color, so I won't crit the work on that basis, but from a usability standpoint, I think your "8" is fair.
Suggestions I'd make:
First is to Praise-guys about how you present your templates themselves: Rethink how you present the JoomlaPraise banner at the top, with the pull-down selector. Make the Demo header more low-key (like 2-tone gray, so it doesn't fight with your actual template. Merchandising at the point of sale is more valuable than ANY other tactic. Re-think that for sure. You'll sell more!
Alignment - Make the top of the Article Display (Featured Work) line up with the top of the Right Module.
Text - Consider a bit more contrast in the sample content text colors, since a lot of people (men) are colorblind, and couldn't actually SEE the text. Since it's a template, it should be as accessible as possible, since many end-user-site-owners aren't too savvy when it comes to CSS and such.
Nice job guys.
